PACE Earth Day Bike Clinic & Ride 2015

Celebrate Earth Day by trying wheeled pedal power!  Are you ready to enjoy our new bicycle lanes this year?  Still confused about some of the bicycle lane markings, rules, terms like "sharrows", or how to safely share the road as a cyclist or motorist?

You are invited to a free, short class on safe cycling on our roads.  We will be using the new bike lanes and sharrows to find our way around town by bike!

PACE – Pueblo Active Community Environments & OHNO - Old Historic Northside Organization are co-sponsoring the ride this Wednesday, April 22nd, at the Mineral Palace Park parking lot near the Santa Fe entrance by the lake.

The Bike Skills Clinic will include the following:  Basic bike handling, turning and stopping to prevent simple mistakes.  How to communicate with other riders and vehicles for safety. Where to ride on the trails, and how to find the trails around town.  Where to ride on the road for visibility and safety.  And why following the rules of the road matters.

“I’m excited to help the Northside neighbors get comfortable bicycling on the roads and enjoy the bike lanes that they requested years ago.  Their quality of life has improved by reducing traffic, speed and noise, plus they have a great place to exercise!”, said Kim Arline, Chairperson of PACE.

Here’s the schedule:
5:15 pm:  Start gathering to pump up tires and for a basic skills review in the parking lot for newer cyclists.
5:45 pm:  Be ready to listen and learn.
6:00 pm:  Start rolling on our new bike lanes and discover Pueblo by bicycle!  Ride as far as you are comfortable riding as we explore the Northside neighborhood, then ride downtown to learn about a new project.

All participants are responsible for their own safety, following the rules of the road, and are required to sign a waiver.  Guardians are welcome to bring kids 10 years and up, but must ride with them and sign a waiver on their behalf.  There will be a skills test in the parking lot first to ensure they can ride safely on city streets.  Don’t forget to bring your own bike and helmet!

“We are excited to see the community embrace working together like this to keep bicycling fun and safe in Pueblo”, said Stephanie Chambers, Bike and Pedestrian Coordinator for the City of Pueblo
