2017 National Bike Challenge Locally

The National Bike Challenge starts May 1st and runs through September and tracks miles ridden by cyclists across the country.  The challenge website displays chat and leader boards nationally, by state, by local communities and each participant has access to lots of data all for free!

Starting in 2017, the National Bike Challenge requires participants to use Strava to upload their data. Stava users will have a seamless upload from their device to any teams or challenges they might be participating in, as well as to the National Bike Challenge if you sign up.   There are advantages and disadvantages to the Strava requirement but we are pleased the challenge will continue for many cyclists!

The Pueblo Bicycle Commuter Challenge takes a hiatus:

Since 2010, we have promoted a bicycle commuting challenge as a worksite challenge the past 7 years.  We've had a lot of fun and successfully opened many eyes to the possibilities of bicycle commuting with hundreds of people trying it here in Pueblo.  Unfortunately, changes to the National Bike Challenge over the years made it more difficult to get reliable data as more people used electronic devices and didn't separate their miles into commute miles vs fun/fitness miles.  And the requirement now to use Strava will prevent us from reaching our intended target audience that might not have access to a device to track on Strava.  Some people are concerned about safety and security and do not use Strava (good article on Strava security options).

So we will not offer a 2017 Commuter Cup Challenge but will cheer on anyone logging miles in the National Bike Challenge and lighting up the global heat map of cyclists in Pueblo!  Your Strava account should list your community and drop your data in the local Pueblo challenge.

Keep on pedaling and leave the car at home more and try commuting by bike!
