New Funding for Bike/Pedestrian Improvements Approved in 2011!

2011 CDOT Transportation Enhancement grants approved for Pueblo County:

  1. Bike lanes on Orman Avenue from Lake Minnequa to Pueblo Community College  (City of Pueblo)
  2. Realignment of Grand Avenue for wider sidewalks and pedestrian plaza outside Memorial Hall/City Hall. Wider sidewalks, streetscaping and bike lanes between Santa Fe and 1st Avenue.  (City of Pueblo)
  3. 2-mile paved trail extension east-west between main McCulloch Blvd and Purcell Blvd along tall powerline that runs in front of Pueblo West Middle School behind Lovell Park and Pueblo West Elementary.  This trail will connect to existing 5.5 mile paved trail connecting to Pueblo West High School. (Pueblo West) 
  4. 1.5-mile paved trail extension north from new light at Joe Martinez and main McCulloch Blvd:  trail will be on east side of McCulloch from the library, through Civic Center park, through the business area of Spaulding and across Highway 50 to the Walmart Shopping area. (Pueblo West)

Other funding providing these improvements:

New wider sidewalks and landscaping along Abriendo near Broadway Arcade area. Old historic flagstone sidewalks will be reincorporated into the landscaping as improvements are for ADA compliance and can cause tripping hazards.

Pending City Council approval:  Bike lanes on High Street between 24th and 32nd along with improvements at new signal at High and 24th St.
